WHEREAS, the city of Spokane recognizes the importance of an hour of recognition for hunger and homelessness across our city and beyond its borders; and
WHEREAS, many citizens in our city may be gripped in fear spiritually, physically or emotionally from hunger and homelessness; and
WHEREAS, under the auspices of Off-Broadway Family Outreach, the vision for "Hunger No More" campaign is that, working together, we can indeed raise hope for the children caught in the cross-fires of hunger and homelessness in our own communities; and
WHEREAS, to help to provide funding for low-income citizens so they may take advantage of available resources in the community, the Post Cards of Hope will be made available to the public; and
WHEREAS, proceeds from the Post Cards of Hope will help give life to the 'Safe Harbors' campaign for a temporary housing for the homeless, a vision of hope under the Off-Broadway Family Outreach; and
WHEREAS, hunger and homelessness continue to be a serious challenge for many individuals and families in our city; and
WHEREAS, by linking arms in the fight against hunger and homelessness, we can help to take the lead in providing an answer to the challenges within our city and beyond our city's borders:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mary B. Verner, Mayor of the City of Spokane, on behalf of the citizens of Spokane, do hereby proclaim Saturday, August 21, 2010, as the celebration and recognition for
HUNGER NO MORE
in the city of Spokane, and encourage citizens to join in support of the fight against hunger and homelessness in our community.

do hereunto set my hand and
cause the seal of the City of Spokane
to be affixed this
